The detector front-end & video electronics are in charge of the detector operation and related signal processing. Because it conditions the final performance, the design and the actual implementation of this electronics have a strong impact on the instrument development and cost. The achievement of the very demanding new missions calls for the development of new architectures and technologies for the detection electronics. AIRBUS DEFENCE AND SPACE has undertaken R&T activities on the subject from 1998, resulting in the successful in-house development of the HRS and Rocsat detection electronics. R&T investigations are still in progress to anticipate the front-end and video electronics for the coming Earth observation and scientific missions, where integrated modules, including analog proximity electronics, sequencing for the operation of the detector and video digitalization, have been developed.
