50th Ariane 5 to launch Astra 3B and COMSATBw-2

Ariane 5 Flight 194 – ready to launch Astra 3B and COMSATBw-2 on 22 May

The first Ariane 5 mission of 2010, due for lift-off from the European Spaceport at Kourou, French Guiana on 22 May, will orbit two communications satellites developed by Airbus Defence and Space: Astra 3B for European operator SES ASTRA and COMSATBw-2 the German Armed Forces.

The 43-minute launch window opens at 22.01 UT (19.01 local time in Kourou, 00.01 on 22 May in continental Western Europe).

Airbus Defence and Space is single prime contractor for the Ariane 5 system, responsible for delivery to Arianespace of a fully integrated and tested launch vehicle. The first launch of 2010 is also the 50th for Ariane 5.
