Largest satellite ever ordered by the Malaysian operator
The Malaysian communications satellite operator MEASAT has selected Airbus Defence and Space to build MEASAT-3b, a new satellite to augment its core Ku-band business in Malaysia, India and Indonesia. Planned for launch in 2013, the powerful MEASAT-3b satellite will more than double the current Ku-band capacity operated by MEASAT.
MEASAT-3b – the largest satellite ever ordered by MEASAT – is designed to have a launch mass of 5.8 tonnes and electrical power of 16 kW. It is planned for more than 15 years of operation.
The MEASAT-3b satellite will be based on Airbus Defence and Space’s high-performance Eurostar E3000 platform and will be able to provide 48 Ku-band transponders simultaneously.
Since the launch of the very first Eurostar, Inmarsat-2 F1, on 30 October 1990, Airbus Defence and Space’s Eurostar satellites have together accumulated nearly 400 years of successful in orbit operation.
