Portsmouth 6 July 2010 - Airbus Defence and Space’ Secure Satcom Systems Division has been awarded a contract by Hagenuk to deliver the satellite communication system for the German Navy’s 3rd in class EGV support ship, the Bonn.
This contract ensures that the Bonn will have the capability to conduct operations on a global scale by providing effective, secure high bandwidth communications over Germany’s new forthcoming SATCOM BW2 and other allied networks.
Airbus Defence and Space will deliver its latest generation of the SCOTMission naval terminals formally known as SCOT 6, which builds on over 35 years of knowledge in designing and manufacturing naval satcom terminals proven to operate in the harshest environments. The SCOTMission system chosen for EGV3, offers unparalleled flexibility, capable of operations at SHF (X-Band), with expansion options to dual X-Ku band operation.
Logistics support for EGV3 has been simplified by ensuring a high level of in-built redundancy decreasing on-board spares holding. This, combined with advanced user interfaces, ensures that maintenance and training requirements are minimised reducing through life costs. The Airbus Defence and Space partnership with ATLAS ELEKTRONIK ensures that the EGV fleet will have an unsurpassed level of support throughout its service life.
This contract maintains Airbus Defence and Space’s position as the leading supplier of naval satcom terminals, and continues the company’s longstanding relationship with both the German shipbuilding industry and the German navy.
