Airbus Defence and Space completes 51st consecutive successful launch of Ariane 5

• Ariane Flight 209 is the 51st consecutive successful launch of the Ariane 5 European launcher, for which Airbus Defence and Space is the prime contractor

• Fifth successful Ariane launch of 2012

• The next launcher is now being readied in French Guiana, while the components for the following one, which will perform the seventh and final launch of the year, are already en route to Kourou

28 September 2012 - Ariane 5 has successfully launched from Kourou, French Guiana, for the 51st time in a row, once again confirming the remarkable reliability of the European launcher developed and built by Airbus Defence and Space, Europe’s leading space technology company.

For Flight 209, the required performance was 10,179 kg in geostationary orbit, including 9,367 kg for the two satellites (Astra 2F, built by Airbus Defence and Space for SES, and the Indian satellite GSAT10). The remaining weight was for Airbus Defence and Space’s SYLDA dual launch system and for adapter structures.
