Airbus Defence and Space provides satellite images to coincide with the United Nations’ World Water Day 2013

To coincide with the UN’s World Water Day 2013, Airbus Defence and Space is providing pictures taken by the Pléiades and SPOT 6 satellites, built and operated by Airbus Defence and Space, showing:

- The Iguaçu Falls located between Argentina and Brazil
(Pléiades Satellite Image, distributed by Airbus Defence and Space Services)
- A glacier in the Himalayas
- (Pléiades Satellite Image, distributed by Airbus Defence and Space Services)
- The Dead Sea located between Israel, Jordan and Palestine
(SPOT 6 Satellite Image, distributed by Airbus Defence and Space Services)
- The Victoria Falls located between Zambia and Zimbabwe

The United Nations declared in 1992 that 22 March every year would be World Water Day. World Water Day 2013 will be celebrated under the theme Water Cooperation.

Pléiades and SPOT are Earth observation satellites. Geospatial-information plays a vital role in converting the latest geospatial information into reliable economic data. Airbus Defence and Space offers the widest range of Earth observation products and value-added services in response to the needs of its customers, particularly in the areas of national and defence mapping, agriculture, deforestation and environment monitoring, maritime and coastal surveillance, civil engineering, oil, gas and mining industries.

Pléiades 1A and 1B are Europe’s first very-high-resolution Earth-observation satellites, and are positioned 180° apart in the same quasi-polar heliosynchronous orbit, at an altitude of 695 km. They offer exceptional performance in the civil market: 50 cm products over a 20 km footprint and excellent flexibility (rapid pointing) allowing multiple acquisition modes (stereo, mosaic, corridor, target). Thanks to their unparalleled ability to acquire 900 images a day, they also offer major operational advantages to users.

The SPOT 6 and SPOT 7 constellation will operate in conjunction with Pléiades constellation and will offer 1.5 metre resolution data over larger imaging swaths (60 km) for mapping very large areas. The Pléiades (1A and 1B) and SPOT 6 and 7 constellations will be stationed at equidistant points in the same orbit around the Earth, making Airbus Defence and Space the first operator in the world able to offer a complete range of Earth-observation data at different resolutions (from medium to very high resolution). What this means is that every point of the globe will now be visible in high and very-high resolution on a daily basis.
