EADS to open its own on-site daycare facility

• Family-friendly environment for employees

• Construction to start in August 2011

• 98 places for children of EADS and Airbus Defence and Space employees

Munich, 29 July 2011 – AIRBUS Group is starting on the construction of its own child daycare centre on the company premises in Ottobrunn. The new facility is slated to open in autumn 2012. This will help the roughly 2,000 employees at the site to better reconcile family and career.

With the building permit issued and the architect’s plans completed, the project can go ahead promptly in August 2011. The 98 places – 50 kindergarten and 48 day-nursery places – represent a further investment by AIRBUS Group in child and family care. The project is being managed by Airbus Defence and Space in association with the non-profit operator Arbeiterwohlfahrt Munich.

Four kindergarten groups for ages from two months to three years and two groups for three- to six-year-olds are planned. Childcare will be provided at the 1,200 m² facility from 08.00 h to 18.00 h daily. A staff of twelve childcare professionals and domestic personnel will ensure that the children receive comprehensive care. The cost of this service will be comparable to the prices charged by regular public kindergartens.

As a multinational enterprise, AIRBUS Group needs to provide high-quality daycare for children in all countries. This question is addressed in a different way by the different governments in the AIRBUS Group home countries, so that the provision of nurseries and child
minders varies from country to country. In France, for example, it is customary for mothers to place their children in nurseries at an early age so that they can go back to work.

“At all our sites, we need to do everything we can to optimise the compatibility of family and career,” said AIRBUS Group CEO Louis Gallois. “We aim at creating a family-friendly environment at all our locations. This makes it easier to reconcile family and career and simplifies relocation, even across national borders. This new daycare centre will contribute to raising the attractiveness of our Ottobrunn site for employees.”

In Ottobrunn, the summer holidays will be covered, too. Children can take part in a holiday programme for a small fee.

The current allocation priority in the local public kindergarten has been extended by a further year so that employees’ children can be looked after until the company daycare  centre opens.

This makes AIRBUS Group’ Ottobrunn site the third in Germany to have its own kindergarten, and the first to have the company childcare facilities on its own premises.

Hamburg already has the Airbus daycare centre “Beluga”, which is managed for Airbus by the association Hamburger Kindertagesstätten GmbH. There is also a company daycare centre for multiple companies including AIRBUS Group in Bremen (Airbus Defence and Space/Airbus), directly adjacent to the AIRBUS Group site.

Under the motto “My life at AIRBUS Group”, the Group is supporting initiatives that promote employee health and safety and a satisfactory work-life balance.
