Airbus Defence and Space’s satellite images of Warsaw and Kiev Euro 2012 football stadiums

• Pléiades 1A, first European very high resolution satellite operated by Airbus Defence and Space Services, captured images of Euro 2012 football stadiums in Warsaw and Kiev.

7 June 2012 – Pléiades 1A, the first European very high resolution satellite built and operated by Airbus Defence and Space has taken images of the brand new National Stadium in Warsaw, where the opening match of the Euro 2012 tournament will be played on 8 June, and also the Olympic Stadium in Kiev that will host the final on 1 July.

The highly detailed images clearly show the surrounding cities – the street layouts, railways and other infrastructure.

In the city centre and close to large parks, both stadiums stand out with their striking architecture.

Launched in December 2011, the Pléiades 1A satellite generates 50-cm resolution products ideally suited for precision mapping and photo-interpretation.
